What Are Perceptual Positions?

In NLP, "perceptual positions" refers to the ability to shift your viewpoint to see a situation from different angles. This helps remove bias, increase empathy, and make better decisions.

1st

First Position

Your own viewpoint. What you see, hear, and feel. Your values and beliefs.

2nd

Second Position

The other person's perspective. How they see and feel about the situation.

3rd

Third Position

A neutral observer. An uninvolved perspective that sees the whole picture.

Example Situation

Imagine you're having a conflict with a colleague who always seems dismissive in meetings.

This exercise will help you understand both your perspective and theirs, and find the best way forward.
