Positive intent

The NLP presupposition that every behavior, no matter how unwanted, serves a positive intention at some level.

Positive intent is a working posture, not a metaphysical claim. By assuming a positive intent behind even self-destructive behavior, the trainer can negotiate with the underlying need rather than fighting the symptom. The behavior is replaceable; the intent it serves usually is not.
